Walked into a gym before and felt lost, out of place, and left to figure it out alone, surrounded by equipment and programs built for 20-year-olds? SMA is different. A supportive local gym in Midland & Midvale for everyday people (25 to 65+) who want real coaching and visible progress.
Two minutes, no cost. Tell us where you're at, what you've tried and what you're after.
Within 24 hours, a real coach calls to match you to the right program and book a look around.
You follow the plan, we coach you the whole way. No guesswork, no getting left alone.
It's four things working together, with a coach who actually knows what they're doing guiding you through it. That's what the 12-Week Challenge is built around.
Training built around how your body actually moves, so you get stronger without breaking down.
A simple plan you can actually stick to. No crash diets, no obsessive calorie counting.
The recovery piece most gyms ignore, and the one that makes everything else start working.
Managing the load life puts on you, so your progress doesn't fall over the moment things get busy.
A coach who knows your name. Weekly check-ins, so you're never guessing what to do next. And a community of locals going through it right alongside you.
Most people don't quit because they're lazy. They quit because no one was in their corner. It was never a willpower problem, it was a support problem. Here's the difference.
Open 24/7. Coached like a studio. That's the SMA difference.
Train without a wall of reflections and the comparison game that comes with it. Just you and the work.
No intimidation, no showing off. Just everyday locals training next to you and cheering you on.
Every session has a plan. You always know exactly what you're doing and why it works for you.
The 12-Week Challenge is the full SMA experience: a complete, coached program with a clear start, a clear finish and real support the whole way.
A full strength floor with everything you need, set up so you're never guessing what to use.
Real coaches who teach you how to move, not just hand you a program and walk off.
Your plan, your sessions and your progress tracked in one place, in your pocket.
Structured challenges and workshops that keep you moving forward, not plateauing.
A genuine local community. Runs, meetups and events with people who become mates.
A clear, coached 12-week plan to build the habit and see real, visible progress.
Not people with perfect schedules. People with jobs, kids, bad knees and every reason to stay on the couch. They showed up. We coached them. It worked.
The results the other gyms in the area couldn't get you.
★★★★★“I have trained at many gyms and I can say at SMA I always feel welcome and at home.
At 56 not all gyms are welcoming.
At SMA there are times where I am around 40 years older than some members and nobody cares.
No mirrors. No ego. Just regular people doing their best to be healthy, supported by a great team.”
★★★★★“As someone who has struggled with being overweight for most of my life, gyms have never been a place where I felt comfortable… SMA has been a completely different experience. From day one, I felt welcomed, encouraged and supported… I still have a long way to go to reach my goals, but for the first time in my life, I truly believe that I will.”
★★★★★“I didn’t think I’d ever join a gym again, or stick at it when I did! But SMA is not just a gym, it’s a community… The coaches make you feel like your journey matters and they invest in helping you achieve your goals.”
★★★★★“The culture and environment is really supportive for someone starting out who feels apprehensive like I did… If you’re a bit put off by the common gym scene but still want to make working out part of your life, I’d recommend trying this place out.”
★★★★★“They provide programs to suit what you want to achieve and don’t just forget about you after the first session like traditional gyms… Would recommend this gym over all others to beginners or even experienced gym goers.”
★★★★★“This has been the most welcoming and supportive gym environment I’ve experienced. I feel the coaches are all genuinely passionate about supporting me through my health and fitness journey. Highly recommend having a look!”
Ziggy came to SMA carrying 145kg. At his lightest he was 95kg. Across just over three years he put on only two to three kilos of muscle, which means almost every kilo that came off was fat.
There was no magic diet. He tried a few and said so himself. What actually moved it was structure and a routine he could keep: four to five days a week of strength training, calories he could live on rather than starve on, and blood work to sort out what his body was actually doing. Then he repeated it for three years.
Ziggy tells it himself, with the numbers, in about 13 minutes.

I grew up in Midland and went to school down the road from this gym. I was a diesel mechanic before this. At a certain point I took a significant loan and built SMA instead of going down the path everyone expected, because this community deserved something better than what was on offer.
Ten years coaching. A couple of ultramarathons (140km PB in 24 hours), and an ankle from a surgery that went wrong that I train on anyway. I train the same way I coach. Consistency before intensity, movement before load, always.
Co-owner of SMA. I grew up around Stratton and Swan View. I started out as a security guard, moved into sales management, then became a personal trainer working out of a small space on Farrall Road in Midvale. I got booked out faster than I expected, and that's where the idea of building something bigger started.
Between us the philosophy is the same: community first, coaching at the centre, and training built around your body and your stage of life, not a program made for someone half their age.

We keep our numbers intentional. Real coaching needs real capacity, so we only open a handful of spots at a time. Your 12 weeks start the day you do.

Yes. Everyone starts somewhere and most people who walk in feel exactly the same way. We start with small steps, coach you through every movement and build from where you are, not where someone half your age is.
Last time you probably had no real structure, no one checking in and a program built for someone else. Here you get a plan, a coach who knows your name, and a community that notices if you don't show up. That's what makes it stick.
No lock-in contracts. The 12-Week Challenge is a no-pressure way to see if we're the right fit for you. If it's not for you, no hard feelings.
Most members train two to three times a week. We'd rather you were consistent with a couple of sessions than burn out chasing five. We build the plan around your real life.
Our whole approach is built on movement, function and coaching, drawing on physio and rehab principles. Tell us on the form and your coach adjusts your plan around it. Plenty of our members train with old injuries.
Everyone feels that on day one and almost no one feels it by week two. We're a friendly, no-ego community of everyday locals. You'll be welcomed the moment you walk in.
That's up to you. Plenty of members carry on because they've built the habit and want to keep the momentum. There's no pressure and no hard sell. We'll have an honest chat about what makes sense for you.
You've probably known for a while. The people who did it didn't have more time, more motivation or more perfect circumstances than you. They just decided, and they showed up. Come and see it for yourself.
