Answer a few questions so we can tailor the right program for you

Simple from here

Here's what happens when you join

1

Fill in the form

Two minutes, no cost. Tell us where you're at, what you've tried and what you're after.

2

We reach out

Within 24 hours, a real coach calls to match you to the right program and book a look around.

3

Show up on Day 1

You follow the plan, we coach you the whole way. No guesswork, no getting left alone.

What your 12 weeks cover

Train smarter, not harder

It's four things working together, with a coach who actually knows what they're doing guiding you through it. That's what the 12-Week Challenge is built around.

01

Movement

Training built around how your body actually moves, so you get stronger without breaking down.

02

Nutrition

A simple plan you can actually stick to. No crash diets, no obsessive calorie counting.

03

Sleep

The recovery piece most gyms ignore, and the one that makes everything else start working.

04

Stress

Managing the load life puts on you, so your progress doesn't fall over the moment things get busy.

A coach who knows your name. Weekly check-ins, so you're never guessing what to do next. And a community of locals going through it right alongside you.

The SMA Difference

Most gyms hand you a swipe card and wish you luck

Most people don't quit because they're lazy. They quit because no one was in their corner. It was never a willpower problem, it was a support problem. Here's the difference.

A Typical 24/7 Gym

  • × Hand you a swipe card and wish you luck
  • × Rows of equipment, no one showing you how
  • × Coaches fresh out of uni with a clipboard
  • × Programs built for 22-year-olds
  • × Mirrors, egos and intimidation
  • × You figure it out, or you quit

Strength & Motion Academy

  • A real coach builds your plan
  • Taught how to move before you load up
  • 10+ years of coaching experience
  • Programming for your body and stage of life
  • No mirrors, no egos, no guesswork
  • Someone notices if you don't show up

Open 24/7. Coached like a studio. That's the SMA difference.

Straight up

What you won't find at SMA

Mirrors

Train without a wall of reflections and the comparison game that comes with it. Just you and the work.

Egos

No intimidation, no showing off. Just everyday locals training next to you and cheering you on.

Guesswork

Every session has a plan. You always know exactly what you're doing and why it works for you.

Everything included

What's inside

The 12-Week Challenge is the full SMA experience: a complete, coached program with a clear start, a clear finish and real support the whole way.

Free Weights & Strength

A full strength floor with everything you need, set up so you're never guessing what to use.

Coaching & Education

Real coaches who teach you how to move, not just hand you a program and walk off.

The SMA App

Your plan, your sessions and your progress tracked in one place, in your pocket.

Challenges & Seminars

Structured challenges and workshops that keep you moving forward, not plateauing.

Community Events

A genuine local community. Runs, meetups and events with people who become mates.

The 12-Week Challenge

A clear, coached 12-week plan to build the habit and see real, visible progress.

Real people. Real change.

More proof than anyone else in the area

Not people with perfect schedules. People with jobs, kids, bad knees and every reason to stay on the couch. They showed up. We coached them. It worked.

Kate
90kg → 85kg · 2.8kg fat lost

A self-confessed non-gym person. She fixed her nutrition with SMA's system, three regular meals instead of constant grazing, and dropped from 90kg to 85kg in four weeks, 2.8kg of it pure fat.

Brian
3.2kg fat lost · muscle up

Calorie-cutting and fasting on his own had stopped working. Upping his protein with a coach who knew his name shifted 3.2kg of fat and added muscle. The win he's proudest of: he can touch his toes again.

Sharon
15% → 13.6% body fat · winner

Running had stopped getting results for her. Training in the gym and eating more (an 80/20 approach) took her body fat from 15% to 13.6% with muscle held steady, and won her the challenge.

Toni
1.9kg fat lost · female winner

A vegetarian and a female challenge winner. Already a keen trainer, she cracked it by fixing her nutrition and lost 1.9kg of fat. Her message: don't let age stop you.

Alec
5.3kg fat lost · winner

Started at 107kg doing basically zero exercise and heavy snacking. He simply did what his coaches asked and lost 5.3kg of fat while keeping his muscle. His takeaway: stick to the plan and it works.

Anne
3kg fat lost · most points

Won the award for most points, and got there by eating more, not less. She started tracking again, actually ate lunch, meal-prepped and trained most days: 3kg of fat gone, plus muscle. Rates the community as much as the results.

Thea
5.6% body fat down · winner

Progress had been slow for her before. The fix was counter-intuitive, eating more (up to around 1,800 calories) to fuel hard daily training. Result: 1.2kg of muscle gained and body fat down 5.6%.

Mike
5.4kg fat lost · 4.2% body fat down

Went all-in on full commitment. He now meal-preps every Sunday and doesn't miss the fast food, 5.4kg of fat gone and nearly a kilo of muscle on. Credits the plan, the nutrition workshop and the group chat.

Vanessa
2.8kg fat lost · female winner

A female challenge winner, and she didn't do anything extreme. Just dialled in her food (around 1,600 calories, cutting the midnight snacking) with the team's support: 2.8kg of fat gone and 1.2kg of muscle gained.

Cody
gained 5.2kg · +2.1kg muscle

His goal was the opposite, putting weight on. After a break from the gym he trained six days a week and gained 5.2kg, including 2.1kg of muscle. The hard part was eating enough; the lesson was consistency.

Bruce
6.3kg down · winner

A boilermaker with plenty of cardio at work, food was his weak spot. Sorting out breakfast and protein instead of skipping meals dropped 6.3kg with barely any muscle lost. Says walk in and you won't feel like a stranger.

Shirley
5.3kg fat lost · +1kg muscle

Her first time in a gym in 30 years. She came to build strength and mobility, not just to lose weight, and did both: 5.3kg of fat gone and a kilo of muscle on. Her advice: just take the first step.

Craig
6.5kg fat lost · +2.4kg muscle

One of SMA's best transformations yet. He joined with his partner and nailed it through meticulous tracking (his coaches called it A+) and showing up at the same time daily: 6.5kg of pure fat gone, 2.4kg of muscle on.

“I have trained at many gyms and I can say at SMA I always feel welcome and at home.
At 56 not all gyms are welcoming.
At SMA there are times where I am around 40 years older than some members and nobody cares.
No mirrors. No ego. Just regular people doing their best to be healthy, supported by a great team.”

“As someone who has struggled with being overweight for most of my life, gyms have never been a place where I felt comfortable… SMA has been a completely different experience. From day one, I felt welcomed, encouraged and supported… I still have a long way to go to reach my goals, but for the first time in my life, I truly believe that I will.”

“I didn’t think I’d ever join a gym again, or stick at it when I did! But SMA is not just a gym, it’s a community… The coaches make you feel like your journey matters and they invest in helping you achieve your goals.”

“The culture and environment is really supportive for someone starting out who feels apprehensive like I did… If you’re a bit put off by the common gym scene but still want to make working out part of your life, I’d recommend trying this place out.”

“They provide programs to suit what you want to achieve and don’t just forget about you after the first session like traditional gyms… Would recommend this gym over all others to beginners or even experienced gym goers.”

“This has been the most welcoming and supportive gym environment I’ve experienced. I feel the coaches are all genuinely passionate about supporting me through my health and fitness journey. Highly recommend having a look!”

145kg to 95kg. 50 kilos gone.

Ziggy came to SMA carrying 145kg. At his lightest he was 95kg. Across just over three years he put on only two to three kilos of muscle, which means almost every kilo that came off was fat.

There was no magic diet. He tried a few and said so himself. What actually moved it was structure and a routine he could keep: four to five days a week of strength training, calories he could live on rather than starve on, and blood work to sort out what his body was actually doing. Then he repeated it for three years.

Coach Josh Hardy
Meet your coaches

Hey, I'm Coach Josh Hardy

I grew up in Midland and went to school down the road from this gym. I was a diesel mechanic before this. At a certain point I took a significant loan and built SMA instead of going down the path everyone expected, because this community deserved something better than what was on offer.

Ten years coaching. A couple of ultramarathons (140km PB in 24 hours), and an ankle from a surgery that went wrong that I train on anyway. I train the same way I coach. Consistency before intensity, movement before load, always.

And I'm Navar Poole

Co-owner of SMA. I grew up around Stratton and Swan View. I started out as a security guard, moved into sales management, then became a personal trainer working out of a small space on Farrall Road in Midvale. I got booked out faster than I expected, and that's where the idea of building something bigger started.

Between us the philosophy is the same: community first, coaching at the centre, and training built around your body and your stage of life, not a program made for someone half their age.

Honest answers

Questions people actually ask

Yes. Everyone starts somewhere and most people who walk in feel exactly the same way. We start with small steps, coach you through every movement and build from where you are, not where someone half your age is.

Last time you probably had no real structure, no one checking in and a program built for someone else. Here you get a plan, a coach who knows your name, and a community that notices if you don't show up. That's what makes it stick.

No lock-in contracts. The 12-Week Challenge is a no-pressure way to see if we're the right fit for you. If it's not for you, no hard feelings.

Most members train two to three times a week. We'd rather you were consistent with a couple of sessions than burn out chasing five. We build the plan around your real life.

Our whole approach is built on movement, function and coaching, drawing on physio and rehab principles. Tell us on the form and your coach adjusts your plan around it. Plenty of our members train with old injuries.

Everyone feels that on day one and almost no one feels it by week two. We're a friendly, no-ego community of everyday locals. You'll be welcomed the moment you walk in.

That's up to you. Plenty of members carry on because they've built the habit and want to keep the momentum. There's no pressure and no hard sell. We'll have an honest chat about what makes sense for you.

You already know you need to make a change

You've probably known for a while. The people who did it didn't have more time, more motivation or more perfect circumstances than you. They just decided, and they showed up. Come and see it for yourself.
